Career
Rema had started singing in his secondary school days. He posted a viral freestyle “Gucci Gang” on Instagram in 2018 to D’Prince’s track. The post caught D’Prince’s attention and he invited Rema to Lagos where he discovered him and offered him a record deal.
Rema agreed and signed a record deal with Jonzing World a subordinate of Mavin Records. Later, D’Prince introduced Rema to his brother, Don Jazzy. He got signed into Mavin Records.
Subsequently, Rema released his self-titled debut, EP Remain 2019 which blazed and peaked at number one on Apple Music Nigeria. Later on May 21st, 2019, Jonzing World and Mavin Records released the music video of “Dumebi”, a major breakout from his self-titled EP where he featured a cameo appearance from Diana Eneje. Ademola Foloni directed the video and it currently has over 50 million views on YouTube.
Furthermore, Rema announced in May 2021 that he will be calling his sound “Afrowave” which is a subgenre of Afrobeat with exertion on Arabian and Indian music.
